The History of Planet URBK

The New Canvas of AI

2023. 7.13-7.16

COEX B Hall, Gangnam, Seoul

** Role & Context: All images and stories of this exhibition were created using artificial intelligence. Heather Lim participated as the main art director and artist of this exhibition and was responsible for exhibition planning, space planning, and prompt engineering.

The In the past, the people of planet URBK were in harmony with animals and plants. However, as more animal experiments and mechanization progressed, eventually all animals and plants on the planet disappeared, leaving a history where only robots and machines remain.

The mural that contains the story about the worldview of the virtual planet URBK follows the flow from the medieval Renaissance techniques of the past to 50s vintage drawing, propaganda, black and white photography, and digital photography, unfolding a story about the history, worldview, and chronology of the virtual planet URBK.

The social system is rapidly changing, and the flow of information and culture is accelerating even more. In these changes, the creation of false information and distortion of truth is also accelerating. In these changes, we believe that we need to find new methods and standards for interpreting and consuming past traces and current visual data.

'Propaganda', which manipulates or distorts information or opinions for a specific purpose, 'photography', which helped voice the global reality of black inequality in the 60s besides serving the purpose of memory retention, and 'classical paintings', which were used as a window to understanding the lives and culture of our ancestors in the past. 'The Worldview' uses these visual traces of the past for fictional storytelling.

User Participatory Media wall

On such a planet where animals have disappeared, the audience uses an artificial intelligence image generation model to create one animal each. We have limited the options to currently endangered species, and through this, we wanted to convey an additional message about animal protection.
